A playspace of epic proportions.

Project
Whittlesea Public Gardens is an outdoor recreation hub in Lalor, a fast growing suburb in northern Melbourne. Although popular with locals, the Whittlesea City Council believed the Gardens were in need of a transformation, to be more in keeping with contemporary community needs. Their aim was to completely re-energise and update the area with modern amenities, with the intention of getting residents out of their loungerooms and into the great outdoors. Stage one of the project was a huge new playspace, created for them by Urbania
Design
In a collaboration with Glascott Landscape & Civil, Urbania provided design and construction for a number of timber play structures. Designed for kids of all ages and abilities, the playspace has as its centrepiece a five level Richter Spielgeräte timber tower with ladder and rope challenges galore.
Equipment
As well as the centrepiece tower, Urbania also installed a smaller Richter Spielgeräte tower for the less adventurous. Other play equipment included a wheelchair-accessible carousel, a double flying-fox and inground trampolines. Kids also have the chance to burn off plenty of energy with a learn-to-ride track for bikes and scooters.
Review
The Melbourne Playgrounds blog described Whittlesea Gardens as a playground for thrill seekers. High praise indeed.
