Making a splash on the banks of the Mersey.
Project
The Devonport Living Cities masterplan is one of the largest urban renewal projects to be undertaken in northern Tasmania. The waterfront park situated on the bank of the Mersey river is considered the jewel in the crown of the development, and was named 2024 park of the year in the Vic-Tas region by Parks & Leisure Australia.
Designed by ASPECT Studios, the park draws extensively on the local landscape, particularly its unique geology and flora. The park has completely transformed this formerly unloved area, and created a wonderful first impression for people arriving on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry.
Design
Working in collaboration with VOS Construction, Urbania designed and built a number of custom timber play elements, which were made from recycled Australian hardwood. The playspace was designed to suit kids of all ages and abilities, with a nature-based play space proving very popular with the little ones.
Equipment
Our partners Richter Spielgeräte supplied several hand-crafted pieces of timber play equipment, including a large pyramid tower, a climbing structure, a playground pump, tunnel slide and a climbing log combination.
